Old and rare cookbook display
:
Hornsby Library
The library in my old home town of Hornsby in the northern suburbs of Sydney is holding a free display of posters of old and rare Australian cookbooks starting Saturday, October 9 to Sunday, October 31.
The display is on loan from the State Library of NSW.
Discover how Aussie cooking and food has changed over the years, learn about how the fridge and microwave impacted upon cooking styles and see posters of Depression and War-era cookbooks.
The exhibition also includes a display of new and Âgolden oldie cookbooks from the Hornsby Shire collection.
Meet food poetry author Margaret Ruckert
Margaret Ruckert, author of You Deserve Dessert, will speak at Hornsby Library in conjunction with the display on Friday 15 October at 10.30am. Her book is a series of poems about food. The talk costs $5 per person, including light refreshments. Bookings are essential.
Opening hours are:
ÂMonday to Friday 10am to 9pm
ÂSaturdays, 9.30am to 5pm
ÂSundays 2pm to 5pm
See cover images of some of the old cookbooks on flickr
Hornsby Library is located at 28-44 George Street, Hornsby. The library is a short walk from Hornsby Station.
