Our Oven Blew Up!!!
May 17th 2009 11:22
I couldn't believe it. I had just finished cooking poached chicken and fried herb potato and onion dish (going on my Lifestyle Cooking website as it's not vintage enough for here) when I leaned over the hotplates to check the chicken.
Then suddenly there was a huge bang and a large blue flame. I screamed and jumped back instantly. No harm done, other than I scared the crap out of my two little boys and my husband. I wasn't too calm seconds after our little explosion either.
Apparently, a fuse had blown which meant there would be no more cooking on this little baby that night. Damn it as I had wanted to thicken the broth I'd poached the chicken in (my own chicken stock).
As it turned out, the dinner was delicious and we got the oven-fixer guy in the next day to replace the fuse and all is well.
And the big question, why did I bother to do a post about our oven blowing up on my vintage foodie website? Because I believe our oven fits the definition of vintage, but we live in a rental while our house is being built, so we don't have much choice.
Bring on the new standalone cooker I've got my eye on for our new house!!

You poor thing. At least no-one was hurt. Bet you got a bit of a scare though.
If it's a 'vintage' oven, maybe it would have been better if it wasn't just an easily replaced fuse. That way your landlord would have had to replace it with a new one.

I wish they'd buy a new one, but it's working fine now except for the one ring that blew, so that's justification for not replacing it.
I must admit that my care factor is zero as we will be moving out very soon whether our house is ready or not as the rental has sold....*sigh* life can be so interesting.
