To continue with the theme of all things royal weddings, and in this specific instance, royal wedding cakes, the next outstanding piece of confection was created for the wedding of King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan in 1993.
They had two wedding cakes with the first one resembling unit blocks with its elevated rectangular layers embellished with crowns, which the newlyweds cut with a sword.
Prince Andrew and the Duchess Sarah Ferguson weren't to be outdone when it came to elaborate wedding cakes. Six tiers with royal design icing, it reached 7 feet high and had trailing cascades of fresh flowers.
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, later better known as the Queen Mother, and Prince Albert, Duke of York had a 10 foot tall cake that was put on display in London for all to see, before their wedding in 1923.
