Great Depression Cooking - A Review

Have you met Clara? I can't remember how I came across her videos on Youtube but I was hooked. Here is this lovely 93 year old lady pottering around in her kitchen as she cooks a number of dishes from her childhood that her mother made when there wasn't alot of money for food.
The era of the Great Depression fascinates me for a number of reasons. Firstly, the tenacity and imagination of those women who had to stand in their kitchens and make meals out of barely anything due to a lack of funds and food...that's alot of pressure on the average homemaker of the day.
Secondly, with the economic climate the way it is now, I truly believe we may be heading towards similar circumstances as our counterparts of the 1930s. Although we have the modern appliances and labour-saving devices, we may find our bank accounts don't quite stretch to those foods we have become used to in our kitchen, or those foods may be in short supply as well.
Clara makes some very basic recipes that may be of interest to anyone who is watching their food budget and yet still feed their family healthy, filling and yummy meals.

I've also included a link to one of the episodes in a series of Clara cooking on Youtube. Hope you enjoy it!
