of Food
I don't remember Fanny Cradock but my mother-in-law does only too well.
Apparently, according to an article by The Independent newspaper described her as the First Lady of Food.
'She had mad glittering eyes, the face of a supercilious horse, the maquillage of a French clown and demeanour of a woman in constant search of an argument. She was rude to everyone: BBC colleagues, helpers, members of the public, fellow cooks and her long-suffering partner, Johnnie.'
The Independent, 19 February 2009.
My mother-in-law's memory is of her cooking in the kitchen in evening wear with long 3/4 gloves.
"She would say that a pancake had to be so thin that you can read your lover's love letters through them," my MIL said.
For forty years she livened up British kitchens with her eccentric cooking shows.

She had a hard start in life with her mother abandoning her, and then a trail of broken marriages until she met her common-law husband Major John Cradock. They only married in 1977 but she had taken his name many years before.
She invented Green Cheese Ice Cream - ice cream with Gruyere cheese, dyed green.
She published 100 cookery books which sold in thousands, and inspired untold millions of housewives to be brave and adventurous in the kitchen.
